academy_model Planning
Thank you to everyone who wrote or signed a letter in support of this application. We are hoping to have a decision on 20 December, but it may slip over into January’s meeting. There is a huge amount of work being done by the buildings group on the detail of the buildings. The key work that is being done right now is the planning on the various phases of construction and how we can continue to run the school safely while fitting everyone in.

Principal
We were very fortunate to have 16 applications for this position and it was a very difficult job choosing the candidates that we felt should actually be interviewed. The PSG group eventually selected four candidates that will be coming to school on 5 and 6 December for formal interviews. We hope we are able to select one person from this group and be in a position early in the New Year to confirm their appointment once the Funding Agreement has been signed.

Governance
The original members of this group have been joined by more College members as we look at how we select and fill the positions on the new Board of Governors for the Academy. While there are set numbers recommended by the Government, we are looking at how to get a balance of local and national members joining to help us on this new journey.

Legal
All of the various documents to enable us to become an Academy are now at final drafting stage. There is a six-hour meeting booked for this Friday (1 December) to go through them all, word by word, with the objective of coming to a final agreement that we HWS, Fellowship and the DfES are happy with.

DfES Visit
We had a visit from Mathew Young of the DfES on Tuesday 28 November. He was very impressed by the children and the teachers, and the buildings were what he had been led to expect. We had the opportunity to ask Mathew questions and it was very reassuring to hear his commitment to our becoming an Academy and if at all possible opening as such in September 2007. I would add that this date is still subject to lots of events happening before then, but nonetheless it was great to hear his commitment on behalf of the DfES.
