The last bulletin included reports from three community groups
(Community, Design/Build, Governance), please note that the report from
the fourth group (Pedagogy) was printed in the Friday Flier a few days
later. Although this group is mainly being held by the teachers they do
welcome input or questions from anyone; David Donaldson and Karin Hines
are the representatives on the Project Steering Group (PSG).
On Tuesday we hosted the four design teams (i.e. architects) that have
been shortlisted from the DfES procurement list. The idea was for them
to get a feel of the place before the formal interview process that
will take place next Monday, and they all seemed to appreciate the
opportunity. Thanks to those who made themselves available as
chaperones and thanks to the teachers who put up with interruptions.
Monday's interview team consist of: Mark Evans and Chris Terry (DfES),
Lara Newman (Project Manager), Sylvie Sklan and Trevor Mepham (SWSF),
William Braid (Council), Carol Kirk (College), and Mike Whitfield
(Chair of Design/Build group). The interviews will take place in the
Much Dewchurch village hall. Each team will make a 25 minute
presentation and then face a series of questions from the panel. At the
end of the day the interviewers will confer and make a decision on the
appointment. The interviewers would then like to bring their decision
back to the community to explain and get our blessing - or otherwise!
Hence, a meeting the same evening at school has been arranged, at 7.30;
all interested are welcome to come along. That brings me to last
night's Academy Forum meeting: we adopted the same format of starting
together then splitting into groups then re-assembling at the end. The
Design/Build and the Community groups focussed together on the list of
questions for the interview day – and a more thoroughly community
process you couldn't imagine.
The Governance group reported
back on what is obviously an ongoing deeply considered process,
including: reflecting on what legal forms could reflect the Vision
Statement, on the separation of roles of College and Council and
whether these can come together under College once more administration
can be afforded, and how teachers can offer more representation on the
various community groups.
Other meetings due: the school
members of the PSG are meeting weekly, at 5pm on Thursdays, for
informal sessions; the Design/Build group are meeting Tuesday 6
December at 8pm; the next Academy Forum meeting is on Wednesday 14
December, 7.30pm; the next full PSG will be Monday 2 December, 1.30 –
3.30pm.
