A big thank you to our teachers who continued to work up to and over the Christmas break with Sylvie in preparing our statements on SATS and Admissions. These will be presented to the DfES as part of the Feasibility Study. A great deal of time, thought and pedagogical discussion has gone into the final papers.

The architectural firm appointed last term were with us all day on Tuesday, exploring each classroom, the grounds and above all listening to the children and teachers on their wishes for a new school building.

The whole school performed a united Eurythmy movement for them on the field (battling a raging wind and grey skies). The Open Forum, incorporating the Architects presentation was held that evening (Tue 10) and saw over 40 parents and teachers who were all keen to hear not only the ideas from the Architects about how they will come up with ideas for a new building/site but to add to the debate about what we felt was important to take forward from the old school to the new.

The Buildings Group continue to work on the creation of a brief for the Architects and the gathering of supporting material for this. They have had perhaps the the most urgent deadlines to meet.

The Academy Community Development Group have sent out their questionnaire on the use of the existing buildings and eagerly await your response to these to help formulate their proposals for the future use of the buildings and the involvement of the community in a Steiner Academy. Please return your questionnaire to their pigeonhole in Reception where more copies are also available.

The Governance Group have been working on a new Vision Statement and Mission statement, the role of the ‘Principal’ (i.e. accountable person which is a requirement for state funded schools) and the role of a governing board. All of these subjects are legally required of us, the group’s role has been to maintain our Steiner ethos in all these areas.

All the groups are now working to specific deadline dates and a sense of urgency (or should we say nail-biting tenseness!) prevails. The Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship Executive joined College and Council on Monday night to discuss our progress with the Academy process. They are very supportive of the process and outcome of the work we have undertaken to date and fully support the current statements that we have produced for both Admissions and SATs.

The fellowship executive will continue to contribute support and resources where needed, but above all will retain an observational stance on how we move forward as an Academy whilst retaining the spirit of Steiner education.
