Rudolf Steiner
Organisation and parental involvement The community of parents, teachers and staff co-operates to manage the Academy in its entirety. The Principal works closely on all educational decisions with the College of Teachers and on organisational matters with the Governors. All parents play their part in the life of the school; everything from serving on mandate groups to fund-raising. School Governors Like in all academies, the majority of the governors of Steiner Academy Hereford are appointed by the sponsor. The sponsor is the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship, the organisation that represents all the Steiner schools in the UK. The appointed sponsor governors all have a strong connection to the underpinning educational ethos and/or to the school itself. The Board of Governors includes 5 sponsor governors, the sponsor's representative, two teacher governors, two elected parents governors, the locally elected Councillor (to represent the local community) and the principal. The Board of Governors meets twice a term. In between Board meetings four committees (working groups) have been set up to deal with matters related: personnel, finance, premises and teaching and learning. Each of these groups meets regularly and the governor member of the group reports to the Board meetings. Inevitably it will take a bit of time to map the relationship of the various other working groups within the school community to the Board of Governors and to ensure that all the organisational structures are appropriate to this new phase in the school's life. The priority for the new Board of Governors, however, will always be to maintain an overview of the strategic direction of Steiner Academy Hereford without losing the spirit of community and self-governance that have been such strengths in the Hereford Waldorf School. |
